Caitlin Mae, 17, is hoping to perform in Los Angeles

A 17-year-old singer from Abertridwr has set her sights on performing alongside the likes of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift in the United States.

Caitlin Mae Nedahl, whose stage name is Caitlin Mae is taking part in a competition called Opening Act, which is run by American radio station, Radio.com.

The winner of the competition will perform at the We Can Survive charity concert, which will be held on Saturday, October 19 at the Hollywood Bowl, which is in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles.

The country singer is relying on online public votes to get the chance to perform at the concert and receive a $10,000 prize.

Caitlin Mae told Caerphilly Observer: “This is so incredibly important to me. It’s my dream.

“To perform alongside a lineup of such talented and well known artists would be so unbelievably massive.

“To be the opening act for Taylor Swift and Katy Perry and represent my hometown and the country music community within the UK would be the best experience yet.”

Caitlin Mae added: “I truly do believe that if you can dream it, you can do it.

“I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has voted for me so far and to everyone who continues to support me.”

In June, Caitlin Mae performed on stage with her idol, American singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood, at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

Caitlin Mae’s mother, Helen Nedahl, said: “It would be a dream for Caitlin Mae to perform at a venue like the Hollywood Bowl.

“She’s been singing since she was really little and has been a country singer for the last three years.

“You wouldn’t find a more determined young woman.”

Mrs Nedahl added: “She loves America. Country music isn’t as big here as it is there.

“It would be an ideal platform for her to perform.”

Voters are allowed one free vote each day, with additional votes coming at a cost.

Mrs Nedahl has said that she will enter everyone who votes for Caitlin Mae into a prize draw, with a Christmas sleigh up for grabs.
