Hundreds take part in charity run from Caerphilly to Cardiff

Hundreds of runners took part in the run from Caerphilly Castle

Hundreds of runners have taken part in a charity fun run to help raise thousands of pounds for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The 11-mile charity run between Caerphilly and Cardiff castles took place on Sunday, September 8.

It was the second year that the run, which goes via the Taff Trail, has been run by Velindre.

Kylie McKee, the deputy head of fundraising at Velindre, said: “The second Velindre Castle to Castle Run on Sunday was another phenomenal success, with even more runners than last year, and we are absolutely delighted.

“We were blessed with amazing weather once again which really helped. The atmosphere was brilliant.

“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everybody involved in this special event: the main event sponsor Castle Dairies, chief organiser Stuart Buswell, all the volunteers and marshals, the sponsors and donors, and last but my no means least to all the runners.

“Without you this event would not happen and we cannot thank you enough.

“Last year’s event raised £25,000 and we’re sure this year’s event will raise more.

“All the money raised from this event really will help Velindre treat, care and support more cancer patients and their families.

“It will allow us to fund specialist nurses who are fundamental to a patient’s experience, implement projects to improve the physical environment for a patient, such as our Family and Children’s Room

“It will enable us to offer better support through complex treatment pathways, earlier access to cutting edge treatments, research into new treatments, purchase specialist equipment and ensure our staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available. It really does make a huge difference.”

It was the second year that Velindre had organised the event with previous runs being organised by Megaday and Caerphilly Runners.
