Bedwas have extended their winning start to the season with a 20-15 win at Beddau on Saturday, September 21.
Two tries from No8 Dale Rogers, combined with the boot of Dion McIntosh, saw Bedwas hold on for their third win of the season.
Bedwas were awarded a penalty from the scrum and McIntosh slotted over to open the scoring.
Bedwas’ dominance in the scrum continued and Rogers extended the lead when he was driven over for a try.
McIntosh scored the conversion to put Bedwas 10-0 up after 13 minutes played.
Opportunities continued to come Bedwas’ way, but breaks from Matt Williams and Jordan Rees were thwarted by the home defence.
Bedwas continued to dominate and scored their second try when Rogers was driven over the try line once again.
McIntosh slotted the conversion through the posts to increase the lead to 17-0.
But Beddau had the final say in the first half, with winger Cameron Ellis scoring out wide.
Hywel Chatham missed the conversion attempt and Beddau went into the break trailing 17-5.
The visitors had the wind at their backs as the second half got underway but Beddau enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.
Chatham made up for his earlier miss by scoring a penalty to reduce Bedwas’ lead to nine points after 53 minutes.
This was followed by a try from Beddau fullback Callum Wheeler, converted by Chatham, to cut Bedwas’ lead once again.
With momentum firmly in Beddau’s favour, Bedwas spent the last 20 minutes on the back foot as Beddau pushed for the winning points.
But Bedwas held firm and saw out the game, making it two wins from two in the Championship following a cup win against Tata Steel.
The side will now begin preparing for their next game, Ystalyfera at home,at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 28.
