Bargoed’s bright start to the season continued on Saturday, September 28 with an bonus-point win against Glamorgan Wanderers.
The Bulls were 32-16 victors at the Memorial Ground in Ely and remain unbeaten in the WRU Championship, with two wins and a draw under their belt.
Adam Powell’s try gave Bargoed the first points of the game, with Steffan Jones adding the conversion.
After 20 minutes, Bargoed went 10-0 up after Jones scored a penalty.
The visitors continued to attack but struggled to work their way past a strong Wanderers defence.
The hosts pulled a score back in the 28th minute when Paul Short kicked a penalty between the posts.
A penalty for either side followed and Bargoed went into the changing rooms at half-time with a 13-6 advantage.
The second half got underway and Bargoed scored their second try of the game through hooker Rhys Buckley, who scored again before the hour mark.
Jones scored one conversion and missed another and Bargoed took a 25-6 lead with little more than 20 minutes remaining.
Bargoed secured the four-try bonus point when Rhys Humphries was set up by his brother, Darren, to score a try.
Jones slotted the conversion for the two extra points as Bargoed took a commanding 32-6 lead.
But the hosts refused to be beaten and responded with two late tries from Will Adams-Jones and James Loxton to finish the scoring.
But it was too little too late for Glamorgan Wanderers as Bargoed moved up to fourth in the Championship table.
Looking to extend their good run of form, Bargoed are back in action on Saturday, October 5 when they welcome Caerphilly County Borough rivals Cross Keys to Bargoed Park.
