Bedwas scored six tries at home to Narberth on Saturday, October 12 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Stefan Sankala’s team run out 38-13 victors at the Bridgefield and remain second in the WRU National Championship, two points behind Pontypool.

Fullback James Hallett opened the scoring for Bedwas, finding enough space to sprint through a gap and race to the line.

However, Hallett was unable to convert his own try, keeping the score at 5-0.

Several minutes later, Narberth pulled one back when winger Yannic Parker crossed out wide for an equalising try. Nick Gale’s conversion was unsuccessful, meaning the visitors missed the chance to go ahead.

But Narberth did take the lead shortly after. Bedwas were penalised for holding onto the ball in the ruck and Gale slotted home the penalty to go 8-5 up.

This sparked Bedwas into action, who regained the lead through a Mike Dacey try soon after. Hallett missed the chance to increase the lead to four points as his conversion was off target again.

The score stayed at 10-8 until near the half-time whistle, when Hallett scored a penalty to give the hosts a 13-8 lead going into the break.

Bedwas made a bright start to the second half, scoring a try within four minutes through winger Jordan Rees to take their lead to 18-8, Hallett off target with the conversion once more.

Narberth responded immediately and a second unconverted try by Parker saw them within five points of Bedwas.

But Bedwas were in no mood to surrender and two tries in three minutes, from Brynley Toms and Craig Hudd, took the game away from the visitors.

With the four-try bonus point secured, Owain Keane got in on the act after sniping through a gap in the visitors’ defence. Dion McIntosh scored the conversion to give Bedwas a 35-13 advantage.

Keane thought he’d scored again moments later after a quickly taken tap penalty, but the referee was having none of it and disallowed the try.

The game was wrapped up in the 76th minute when McIntosh’s penalty sailed between the posts to seal a 38-13 win.

On Saturday, October 19, Bedwas travel to Trebanos as they look to maintain their winning start to the season.
