Crowds gathered around the cenotaph for the Poppy Appeal launch last year

Caerphilly town centre is set to host the launch of the South East Wales Poppy Appeal.

The launch will take place at 10.30am on Saturday, October 26 at the cenotaph on Lower Twyn Square.

The money raised by the appeal will go towards supporting members of the armed forces, veterans and their families during times of need.

Last year, the Caerphilly and District branch of the Royal British Legion raised more than £35,000 through the appeal.

The branch thanked members of the public, schools, businesses and everyone else who contributed to last year’s appeal, with the UK-wide Poppy Appeal raising £50 million.

The branch meets at 7pm on the third Tuesday of each month at Caerphilly Visitor Centre, with new members welcome.

For more information or to help with this year’s appeal, contact Caerphilly and District’s Poppy Appeal organiser, Elaine Thomas, on 07975 542719.
