The poppy display on the banks of Caerphilly Castle

A poppy display has been set up on the banks of Caerphilly Castle.

This year’s display features the number 75 to mark the 75th anniversary of three key battles in WWII – Monte Cassino, D-Day, and Kohima/Imphal.

The display has been set up ready for the launch of the South East Wales Poppy Appeal at 10.30am on Saturday, October 26.

The launch event, which will be held at the cenotaph on Lower Twyn Square, will be attended by Caerphilly County Borough Council mayor Cllr Julian Simmonds, Rev Pauline Smith and representatives and standard bearers from the Royal British Legion, among others.

The Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen (BTM) band will play music at the event.

Cllr Simmonds will give an address before an act of remembrance.

Refreshments will be available at the Caerphilly Visitor Centre after the service.
