Pupils from two primary schools in Caerphilly have taken part in a nationwide William Shakespeare festival.
As part of the festival, pupils from St Helen’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Lansbury Park performed Shakespeare’s The Tempest at Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Wednesday, November 13.
Across the UK, around 20,000 pupils from more than 750 schools took part in the festival, which is the world’s largest youth drama festival and has been running since 2000.
In total, 118 theatres across the country hosted performances from pupils of all ages and abilities.
The festival is run by the Shakespeare Schools Foundation, which says it is “deeply committed to reaching young people living in disadvantaged areas”.
Speaking before the performance, St Helen’s pupil Emily Morgan, 11, said: “I am very excited to perform.
“This will take me out of my comfort zone in a good way.”
In a letter to Caerphilly Observer, Emily and her classmates Harry Morrissey, Seren Davies and Oajin Varghese, all aged 10 and in Year Six, said: “We are very delighted to be part of this Shakespeare festival.”
