General Election hustings in Machen

St John’s Church, Machen

A General Election hustings featuring all four candidates for the Caerphilly constituency will be held at St John’s Church in Machen on Sunday, December 8.

Labour’s Wayne David, Plaid Cymru’s Lindsay Whittle, Jane Pratt of the Conservatives and Brexit Party candidate Nathan Gill MEP will all take part.

The Liberal Democrats and the Green Party will not feature in the hustings, with the parties stepping aside in Caerphilly as part of a ‘Remain Alliance’ with Plaid Cymru.

The event will start at 6pm and finish at 7.30pm.

The candidates will introduce themselves and deliver a seven and a half minute speech outlining their visions and ideas for Caerphilly, with members of the public invited to ask questions.

The event will be free to attend, but there will be a collection in aid of the St. John’s Church Redevelopment Appeal – which aims to fund repair work at the church and turn it into a “multi-purpose flexible, community hub”.

Car parking space is limited and organisers are encouraging visitors to park in Machen Car Park and walk to the church if possible, leaving the nearby parking spaces for those less able to walk longer distances.
