A fundraising group in Caerphilly has raised more than £75,000 since it was set up in 2011.

Marie Curie’s Caerphilly Fundraising Group marked the milestone at their Christmas coffee morning, which was held in Bedwas Methodist Church.

The group, made up of ten members, raise money through a variety of fundraising events, such as annual quizzes, fashion shows and tea parties.

Marie Curie aims to provide care and support for people with terminal illnesses and their families.

Charli Thomas, Marie Curie community fundraiser for south east Wales, said: “The Caerphilly Fundraising Group are an amazing and valued part of the Marie Curie team and have raised a phenomenal amount for our services across Wales.

“They are the face of Marie Curie in the local community and are truly a pleasure to work with. This year they have challenged themselves by putting on various new events and the risk has really paid off.

“Marie Curie relies on the generous donations of the public and time given by local volunteers. Without our amazing volunteers we could not continue to support people living with a terminal illness and their families.”

In February and March, Marie Curie’s Caerphilly Fundraising Group will be taking part in the annual Great Daffodil Appeal.

Margaret Churchill, Caerphilly Fundraising Group secretary, said: “The Great Daffodil Appeal is a fun and easy way to get involved in your local community whilst knowing you are making a big difference to families facing terminal illness.

“As a group we are looking forward to a week of bucket collections in Morrisons Caerphilly and would love some extra volunteers to help raise as much money as possible.

“Any help that local people can give would be greatly appreciated.

“Collecting is lots of fun – you can do it on your own or with friends and Marie Curie will support you from the moment you sign up.”

The group will be collecting money at the Morrisons store in Caerphilly from March 9 to March 15 as part of the Great Daffodil Appeal.
