Horse put down after crash near Pontllanfraith

A horse has been put down after a being hit by a vehicle on the A472 near Pontllanfraith this morning (Monday, January 13).

The incident happened at around 5.20am, with the road reopening at around 8.10am.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “A vet attended to the injured horse, however a decision was made for the horse to be humanely destroyed.”

Three horses were on the road at the time of the incident and were unaccompanied.

A second horse had an eye injury, but it is unclear whether this injury was sustained in the incident. The horse is currently back with its owner, while the third horse was unharmed.

No people were injured.
