South Wales East AM, Delyth Jewell

South Wales East AM Delyth Jewell has been appointed as Plaid Cymru’s shadow minister for public service transformation and the future.

Ms Jewell AM was given the role by Plaid leader Adam Price, who announced a reshuffle of his top team in the National Assembly.

Included in her new brief are local government and housing.

Ms Jewell, who said she was “delighted” to accept the role, added: “I’ll be approaching this work from the perspective of the people who use public services in Wales with the aim of improving their experience and delivering better results.

“What I’ve been consistently told is that people are frustrated at the lack of coordination between different services they depend on, whether it’s in the field of health, work or housing and there’s a feeling that people are being passed around different agencies rather than being served by a joined-up system that works to meet their particular needs.

“I’ll be consulting widely as I begin the work of forming party policy and would encourage anybody who’s interested to get in touch with me to share their ideas, be that as individuals or representatives of relevant bodies.”

Ms Jewell, who will be Plaid’s candidate for Caerphilly in the 2021 Assembly elections, previously served as the party’s Brexit spokesperson and held the international affairs and culture briefs.
