Prolific shoplifter jailed for stealing meat, cheese, coffee, cereal, chocolate and more

A prolific shoplifter has been jailed for 22 weeks for breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

Scott Lee Clash, 29, of Burns Close, Graig y Rhacca, was originally handed a suspended sentence on December 10 by Newport Magistrates for a string of shoplifting offences.

These were:

On September 2 last year he stole meat worth £45.25 from Trethomas Spar. On September 5 he again stole meat, but this time it was from the Chequered Flag Garage.

On September 6, he stole coffee and cereal worth £39 from Tesco Express in Trethomas. On the same day he also stole cheese and meat worth £30 from the Chequered Flag Garage, also in Trethomas.

On October 21 he stole meat worth £46.40 from Tesco Express in Trethomas.

On October 26 Clash stole razor blades worth £34.47 from Superdrug in Caerphilly. On the same day, he also stole razor blades worth £50 from Tesco at Caerphilly .

He failed to attend two appointments in relation to the original suspended sentence. For this, he was jailed for 14 weeks – two weeks for each original offence.

Clash was also jailed for another eight weeks in relation to a spate of thefts from shops in Newport.

On November 8 he stole four steaks worth £20 from Marks and Spencer in Newport. That same day he also stole a bottle of DKNY perfume worth £40 from Debenhams in Newport.

On December 2 he stole two bottles of Prosecco, worth £16, from Marks and Spencer in Newport and also stole two more bottles from the store on December 4.

On December 10 last year Clash stole ten bars of chocolate worth £10 from a Tesco Express in Newport.

Clash admitted all charges of shoplifting and was told to pay a total of £62 – the cost of the Prosecco, the chocolate and compensation of £20.
