New electric vehicle charging points are set to be installed at 11 car parks across Caerphilly County Borough.

It is hoped all charging points will be installed by March 31 and ready to use by April 1.

Work to install 65 charging points across Gwent has already started, with the project being delivered by a partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council and the other Gwent Councils – Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Monmouthshire.

The charging points being installed will be able to charge between 7kW and 22kW.

Council pass ‘climate emergency’ motion

Cllr Sean Morgan, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for regeneration, transportation and sustainability, said: “As well as helping current owners of electric vehicles, particularly those without off-street parking, we hope that the installation of new charging hubs will also encourage greater take up by our residents; helping to lower our carbon emissions.

“Taking a regional approach to electric vehicle charging will also make travelling throughout Gwent easily accessible to owners of electric vehicles.”
