Markham’s Gerwyn Price suffered a 7-5 Premier League Darts defeat to world number one Michael van Gerwen in Liverpool on Thursday (March 12).

It was the second time in less than a week that the pair had faced off, with Price losing 11-9 to the Dutchman in the UK Open final on Sunday (March 8).

Price misses out on UK Open victory

After a tight contest at the M&S Bank Arena, van Gerwen said: “I’m over the moon with how I played. Gerwyn played great, he threw everything he had at me and I had all the answers.

“This was the total package for a lovely game. The crowd was involved, the darts were great, there was some phenomenal finishing and I think it was a good game to watch.”

The defeat sees world number three Price drop to 7th in the table.

He opened the season with three consecutive draws against Rob Cross, Michael Smith and Daryl Gurney, before crushing world number two Peter Wright 7-1. Price’s first defeat came in the following match, falling 7-3 to league leader Glen Durrant.
