Donations wanted for hospital staff and patients

A Caerphilly woman is seeking donations of hygiene products and snacks to give to staff and patients at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Ystrad Mynach.

Sharon Mock has set up a wishlist on Amazon, with goods such as toothpaste, tootbrushes, shampoo and hairbrushes, as well as biscuits, tea bags and soft drinks.

Ms Mock, who spent 25 years working as a firefighter in Caerphilly, said: “I’m sat here doing nothing at the moment, so I set up the wishlist so I could do something to help.”

Ms Mock set up the wishlist on Wednesday (April 1) and said she’s had “quite a good response so far”.

With nearly all hospital visiting banned in Gwent while the coronavirus outbreak grips the country, Ms Mock said she was concerned many patients wouldn’t have hygiene products with them in the hospital.

In a Facebook post, she said: “It would be a massive relief for family to know that their love ones will have items they need to tide them over until someone can get items to them.

“I have also put those much needed treats, sweets & beverages for those breaks the staff will need and I sure they will share with the patients too.

“Let’s show the NHS that we really do appreciate what they are doing for us.

“Let’s help them in their time of need. They are all working so hard to save our lives so let’s give them a break on us.”

Products bought from the wishlist will be delivered to Ms Mock, with staff members collecting the items from her.
