Residents have been warned not to fall for a telephone scam aimed at vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Caerphilly County Borough Council said it has received reports about the scam, which tries to trick residents into handing over money.
One resident said their elderly grandparents were called by scammers, who told them they would be sent masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, while trying to charge them £29.
The scammer also asked for bank details and other private information.
The council has urged residents to hang up if they receive similar types of calls.
Another scam that has been reported involves a text message that reads: “Someone who came into contact with you tested positive for Covid-19 and recommends you self-isolate/get tested.”
The message reportedly comes with a link attached, which may cause harm to devices and put personal details at risk if clicked.
Cllr Sean Morgan, the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy, said: “It is outrageous that anyone would exploit the vulnerable at such a worrying time. Everyone with elderly relatives should spread the word about these deceptions, in order to keep them safe.”
