Caerphilly County Borough Council is investigating after two men were reportedly seen dumping industrial-scale waste near Mynydd y Grug, between Bedwas and Cwmfelinfach.
The fly-tipping was reported on Saturday, June 6 by resident Nath Manning, who was riding his mountain bike on the common when he reportedly saw two men dumping the waste from their van.
Mr Manning said: “The pair of them were totally oblivious to me. I was slightly higher up than them but less than ten metres away, but they were so engrossed in removing the contents of the van that they didn’t spot me.
“The van then drove off down Ty Canol Lane towards Machen.”
A council spokesperson said “We can confirm that our enforcement team is currently investigating evidence at the site and that provided to us by the public.
“Fly-tipping is a blight on our landscape, as well as a threat to wildlife. The council takes a zero tolerance approach to fly-tipping and will take action against those responsible.
“We’re grateful to the public for reporting such incidents and encourage anyone with evidence of fly tipping to contact us.”
Concerns over fly-tipping in Caerphilly County Borough had been raised while recycling centres were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the council said fly-tipping had actually decreased in that time frame compared with the previous year, with 174 reports received in April this year, compared to 189 in April 2019.
Recycling centres in the borough were reopened on May 26 with social distancing measures in place.
However, the centres are currently only accepting cars, with vans and trailers being turned away.
