Non-urgent repairs to council homes to resume

Non-urgent repairs to the outside of council homes will restart, Caerphilly County Borough Council has confirmed.

Repairs were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, with only essential repairs carried out in the months following the lockdown announcement.

However, only essential repairs will be carried out inside the homes for the time being.

The repairs are being delivered as part of a £260m Welsh Housing Quality Standard programme.

The council has said the extent of the work that will be carried out will be agreed with consent from tenants, with many residents still shielding or self-isolating due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.

Councillor Lisa Phipps, cabinet member for homes, said the announcement “will come as welcome news to many”.

Cllr Phipps added: “We’d like to offer reassurance that the safety of tenants and staff remains our priority, and that all work will be undertaken in line with social distancing requirements and Welsh Government guidelines. 

“We also understand that some tenants may prefer not to have work undertaken at this time and remind them that they are able to postpone until it is convenient.”
