A police officer has been sacked by Gwent Police after “bringing discredit to the force and undermining public confidence in the police”.
The unnamed officer, known as ‘Officer A’, appeared at a public misconduct hearing at Gwent Police’s Cwmbran headquarters, which was held between July 6 and July 9.
Officer A, who was under investigation by Gwent Police’s professional standards department, was subjected to an anonymity order, preventing details which could identify the officer from being published.
After the hearing, the panel found three allegations made against the officer to have breached the force’s standards of professional behaviour.
Allegations made against Officer A, which accused them of lying about the creation of a report and then lying to and misleading a supervisor about the report, was proven as gross misconduct by the independent panel.
Another allegation made against Officer A, relating to driving without insurance, an in-date MOT or a vehicle excise licence, was deemed as misconduct by the panel, with the officer bringing “discredit to the force” and “undermining public confidence in the police”.
An allegation against Officer A, which accused them of abandoning a vehicle in an unnamed church park for around eight weeks without consent and without leaving contact details, was also proved as misconduct.
The vehicle was said to have obstructed other cars and inconvenienced other car park users.
Meanwhile, an allegation accusing Officer A of showing their warrant card to another Gwent Police officer in an attempt to influence their actions after being stopped, was not proven.
Officer A was sacked from the force without notice following the panel’s decision.
The officer’s details will now be added to the College of Policing barred list, which means they won’t be able to hold any policing role in the future.
Gwent Police’s chief constable, Pam Kelly, said: “I expect all of our officers and staff to act in accordance with Gwent Police’s standards of professional behaviour. Anyone who does not adhere to these standards should expect to be held accountable.
“There is no place in Gwent Police for those who act dishonestly and without integrity, nor those who bring discredit to the force and undermine public confidence in the police.
“The behaviour of this officer fell below the standards we in Gwent Police expect of our officers and staff members.
“This behaviour also fell below the standards our communities expect from us and the public deserve far better from those who protect and reassure them.
“The vast majority of our employees demonstrate the highest level of professional conduct at all times and work tirelessly to serve our communities with honesty and integrity.”
