A dog that was stolen after a man was assaulted in Pontymister has been found, Gwent Police has confirmed.

Police have also confirmed that the five people who were arrested following the incident, which took place at around 10.20pm on Friday, August 14, have all been released on bail.

A 41-year-old man sustained a cut to the neck during the attack, which happened on Herbert Avenue.

He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport after suffering serious but not life-threatening injuries, and was later discharged.

A sixth person – a 17-year-old boy from Risca – has also been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail.

The dog, which a cross between a Staffordshire bull terrier and a lurcher, is currently being checked by the RSPCA.
