A footbridge closed for refurbishment will be reopened on September 1, Caerphilly County Borough Council has said.

The council has said it is working with contractors to make sure the Trecenydd footbridge, which is near Hendre Infant School, Hendre Junior School, and St Cenydd Comprehensive, is open before the start of the new school term.

The footbridge was taken down in July for works to be carried out off-site, and will be refitted on Friday, August 28.

The refurbishment of the footbridge has involved repainting, addressing issues with drainage and corrosion, as well as improving the anti-skid surfacing.

While the footbridge is being put back in its place, the A469 between Trecenydd roundabout and Pwllypant roundabout will be closed.

The road closure will be in place between 8pm on August 28 and 4pm on Saturday, August 29.

After the footbridge has been refitted, safety checks will be carried out before it’s reopened to the public.

After the reopening, the council has said minor works will be carried out, although the footbridge will not be closed to the public while this takes place.

In a statement, the council said it “understands the impact that the work will have on traffic flows and pedestrians, apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their patience”.
