A council house in Blackwood has had a closure order imposed on it by magistrates because of persistent antisocial behaviour in it.

The order for 32 Waunllwyn Crescent was granted by Newport Magistrates’ Court on August 27.

Caerphilly Observer is only now reporting the granting of the order as the court originally refused to provide a copy to us when we requested one.

Caerphilly County Borough Council made the order application after working with police and residents.

The council said that an eviction had been scheduled in early April, after “serious breaches of tenancy”, but was put on hold because of the pandemic.

The closure order remains in force until November 27 2020 and means no-one, including tenant Linda Jones is allowed in the property.

The council said it is “supporting” the tenant.

Councillor Lisa Phipps, the council’s cabinet member for housing and property said: “I’d like to thank the residents who had the courage to work with us in successfully applying for this closure order.

“Their statements and evidence provided the court with a true picture of the impact the behaviour from this property had on the lives of families in the area.”
