A man has been jailed for manslaughter following the death of a Caerphilly man in the French Alps.

Marc Sutton was 34-years-old when he was fatally shot by a hunter while mountain biking in Montriond, near the French border with Switzerland, in October 2018.

Lucas Clerc, 24, has been jailed for four years, with three years suspended – meaning he will only spend 12 months in prison.

Clerc said the shot, which killed Mr Sutton, was intended for a wild boar.

He was sentenced at a court in Thonon-les-Bains, in the French region of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes.

Clerc was also banned from hunting and owning a weapon.

A keen snowboarder and mountain biker, Mr Sutton was living in France at the time of his death.

He ran a catering business in the area and opened his own restaurant, Wild Beets Kitchen, in 2018.
