Gerwyn Price has reached the third round of the World Darts Championship after beating Jamie Lewis in an all-Welsh affair.

Price, 35, from Markham, beat Carmarthen’s Lewis 3-2 at in a second round clash at Alexandra Palace, London, on Monday evening (December 21).

Lewis won the first set 3-1 before winning a fourth straight leg to take the lead in the second set.

Price, who has won eight titles this year, fought back, winning the next four legs to take the lead, before Lewis forced a deciding set after winning the next three legs.

However, Lewis missed the chance to lead in the fifth set opener, paving the way for Price to win three straight legs to secure the win and book his place in the third round.

Wales win the World Cup of Darts

Speaking after the match, world number three Price said: “That wasn’t my greatest performance and I probably got a bit lucky in that last set.

“I couldn’t get going for whatever reason and he let me in when he bust 68, but I did what I do and took advantage.

“It’s not a brilliant start but I have to give credit to Jamie. He gave me a good game and I feel like I can grow into this tournament.”

Last year, Price reached the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship – missing out on a place in the final after a defeat to eventual winner Peter Wright.

Price’s third round opponent has yet to be decided.
