Coronavirus vaccine

More than half a million people in Wales have now received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

Latest figures from Public Health Wales, published on Friday (February 5), show 523,042 people have received a first vaccine dose, while 1,635 people have received two doses.

The vaccine rollout in Wales is being based on a priority list.

The coronavirus vaccine priority list

In total, 153,087 people aged 80 and above have received a first vaccine dose – which equates to 83.2% of people in that priority group.

A first vaccine dose has also been received by 84,843 people aged between 75 and 79 – which is 62.6% of people in that category.

Meanwhile, 34.9% of people aged between 70 and 74 have received a first dose, while 81.2% of care home workers and 77.5% of care home residents have also received a first dose.

To date, 75,830 vaccines have been administered in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area, of which Caerphilly County Borough is a part of.

A mass coronavirus vaccination centre opened at Newbridge Leisure Centre on January 30, following the closure of Ty Penallta, in Tredomen, as a vaccination centre.

Judith Paget, chief executive of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said the Newbridge vaccination centre will “support our programme to vaccinate as many people as quickly and safely as possible”.
