Nineteen-year-old Dylan Emery has reached the second round of snooker’s Welsh Open with a 4-3 victory over China’s Lu Ning.

Emery, from Caerphilly, gained a wildcard place in the competition, which is being held at the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport.

The second round will be held on Wednesday (February 17).

Emery, who practices at the Aber and Senghenydd Ex-Servicemens Club, is currently an amateur, but has his eyes set on turning professional.

The competition is being aired on BBC and EuroSport.

As the competition got underway on Monday (February 15), a minute silence was held in memory of Tir y Berth-born two-time UK champion Doug Mountjoy, who died on Sunday aged 78.
