A 13-year-old girl was rescued from a hillside by helicopter after suffering a dislocated knee.

The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team (CBMRT) was called out at 7pm on Saturday, February 27, by Gwent Police to help the injured girl on the hillside above New Tredegar.

It is understood the teenager fell at around 6pm.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the CBMRT said: “Guided by local police officers and family members, mountain rescue personnel were soon on scene.

“The young lady was in a precarious position and in a great deal of pain.

“Initial casualty care was provided and some pain relief given. With the arrival of our team doctor, it was concluded that she had suffered a dislocated patella (knee).

“This was skilfully put back in place on the side of the hill which did much to relieve her discomfort.

“During the initial stages of the incident the assistance of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency rescue helicopter R187 from St Athan was sought to expedite her evacuation and avoid what would have been a difficult and distressing stretcher extraction for the casualty.

“We are very grateful for their efforts and the young lady was airlifted from the hillside and dropped back down to the valley floor to be transferred into the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust crew for onwards transport to hospital.

“An excellently executed multiagency job working with all of our partners.
We wish the young lady a speedy recovery.”
