Darts world champion Gerwyn Price was knocked out at the semi-final stage of the UK Open by eventual winner James Wade on Sunday (March 7).

World number one Price, who turned 36 on Sunday, suffered an 11-6 defeat to Wade, who went on to beat Luke Humphries in the final.

The tournament was held behind closed doors in Milton Keynes, due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

En route to the semi-final, Price, from Markham, brushed aside Peter Hudson, ranked 106th in the world, 10-5 in the the fourth round.

The Iceman then went on to beat Ricky Evans 10-3 in the fifth round, before earning a 10-5 victory over Chris Dobey to book a place in the quarter-finals.

There, he clinched a narrow 10-9 win over South Africa’s Devon Petersen, before Wade stopped him in his tracks.

Price won £20,000 in prize money by reaching the semi-finals.

After the defeat, Price tweeted: “Sorry guys poor performance well done to James good luck in the final thanks all for the support over the weekend and birthday messages reached another semi onto the next.”
