Gerwyn Price has won his first darts title since becoming world champion.

World number one Price, 36, beat Luke Humphries in the Players Championship 6 final on Wednesday night (March 17) – winning a £10,000 prize in the process.

En route to the final, the Iceman beat Chris Dobey in the first round, before overcoming Andrew Gilding in a tight second round clash.

He then went on to beat Rowby-John Rodriguez and Scott Mitchell to set up a quarter-final clash with world number eight Michael Smith.

Price, from Markham, defeated Smith 6-3, setting up a semi-final clash with Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan.

Dolan beat Price on Tuesday (March 16) and went on to win the Players Championship that night.

But Price avenged the defeat, beating Dolan in the deciding leg to book his place in the final, where he earned an 8-5 win over Humphries – who beat former world champions Raymond van Barneveld, Peter Wright on his way to the final.

After his win, Price said: “I’m enjoying darts and playing well. Every game I play is really tough because everyone’s raising their game against me.

“It brings the best out of me and it’s another win for me, so hopefully I can push on from here and pick up a couple more.

“I’ve been playing pretty decent – sometimes I miss a couple of doubles, if you give people chances they’re going to take them and Brendan did exactly that yesterday.

“Obviously everyone’s out to beat you and I’ve got a big target on my back, but it’s nice to get another win under my belt. I’m playing well but people are playing well against me as well.”
