A dispersal notice will be in place in Newbridge this weekend after reports of antisocial behaviour in the area.

The notice will come into effect at 4pm today (Friday, April 16) until 2.30am on Sunday (April 18).

The area covered by the dispersal order includes the Calzaghe Bridge, the business park where McDonald’s and The Otter are located, Newbridge Comprehensive School and Newbridge Leisure Centre – which is currently operating as a mass coronavirus vaccination centre.

It also covers Beynon Street, Blaen Blodau Street, Bridge Street, Celymen Road, Grove Street and High Street.

Police will have the power to stop people from entering the area between this time if they believe they have engaged or will engage in antisocial behaviour.

Last weekend, two house windows were smashed and two cars were damaged in Newbridge after a group of youths were reportedly throwing stones off the Calzaghe Bridge.

Following the incidents, on April 10 and April 11, Inspector Andrew Boucher said: “Antisocial behaviour negatively impacts upon the quality of life for residents and it will not be tolerated within our communities.

“Anyone caught committing an act of antisocial behaviour will be prosecuted. We’d ask that parents ensure they know where their children are at all times, particularly while the dispersal order is in effect.

“I would urge anyone with any information relating to the identity of those responsible for the antisocial behaviour on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, or anyone who has any CCTV footage, to call us on 101 or contact local neighbourhood officers.
