Bedwas Rugby Club has paid tribute to long-serving club member and volunteer Mike Partridge, who has died following a collision on Pandy Road, Bedwas.

The crash, which happened at around 1pm on Saturday, September 25, involved Mr Partridge’s bicycle and a Ford Transit, as well as a Hyundai Tucson and a Vauxhall Vivaro, which were both parked at the time.

Mr Partridge, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene by an air ambulance doctor.

In a statement, the club said: “Mike was a popular and much respected member of the club. He had volunteered for the club for many years, often working as a match day steward and painting and decorating the clubhouse.

“He was also an active member of the Caerphilly Male Voice Choir.

“Mike was a big character in the club and was always filled with humour and quick wit. He was a kind and big-hearted member of our community and we will miss him terribly.

“We wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his wife Pam, his children and grandchildren, as well as all his friends in the club, the choir and beyond.”
