A stalker who chased his ex-partner with his car has been jailed for one year and eight months.

Thomas Harvey, 27, of no fixed abode, also deliberately reversed into his victim’s car, causing “significant damage”.

The incidents happened in Abertridwr on April 7 and Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on April 9.

Harvey pleaded guilty to stalking, causing criminal damage and two counts of dangerous driving at Newport Crown Court.

DC Matthew Pearce, of Gwent Police, said: “Thomas Harvey stalked his victim by pursuing her in his car, veering in and out of the road behind her, causing her great alarm and panic.

“He also found out her new address. He went there in daylight hours where he deliberately reversed into her car, causing significant damage.

“Obviously these incidents were very traumatic for the victim, who lived in constant fear of him.”

DC Pearce added: “This was a particularly harrowing and upsetting ordeal for the victim. I hope this sentence will go some way to providing some comfort to the victim, knowing that she is now safe with Harvey starting a custodial sentence for his actions.”

As well as a prison sentence, Harvey was also disqualified from driving for 22 months and was given a five-year restraining order.

He was also ordered to pay a £156 victim surcharge – which goes towards funding victim services.
