Thieves have stolen lead from the roofs of 13 council-owned properties in Blackwood.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Housing department was made aware of the incidents on March 17 and March 21 after police received reports of people on rooftops in the area.

Housing officers visited residents and arranged for repairs to be carried out.

Blackwood councillor Kevin Etheridge said he was “truly appalled” by the thefts and contacted the police, as well as the council’s housing and community safety wardens.

Cllr Etheridge said: “When people feel unsafe in their own homes with people on their roofs this is totally disgraceful.

“I am pleased to see decisive action has been taken by all the authorities.”

A CCTV camera has recently been fitted in the area following previous reports of antisocial behaviour.
