Caerphilly MP Wayne David poses a question to the Prime Minister

Caerphilly’s Member of Parliament has asked Prime Minister Boris Johnson whether he would be prepared to take a “truth detection test” before every prime ministerial statement.

Labour MP Wayne David, who is standing down at the next general election, posed the question to the embattled Prime Minister in the House of Commons on Tuesday, April 19.

Earlier this month, Mr Johnson was fined by police for attending a birthday party at 10 Downing Street on June 19, 2020 – a time when Covid lockdown rules, including restrictions on gatherings, were in place.

Mr Johnson’s wife Carrie and Chancellor Rishi Sunak were also fined.

The Conservative leader has faced fierce calls to resign as Prime Minister since allegations of his attendance at the rule-breaking parties first emerged – and has been accused of misleading parliament over the scandal.

Speaking in parliament, Mr David said: “Many references have been made to the views of the electorate of this country, and I can tell the Prime Minister that those views are shared by my constituents as well.

“So I would ask the Prime Minister: would he be prepared to take a truth detection test after every prime ministerial statement?”

In response, an unimpressed Mr Johnson said: “I do not know whether the honourable gentleman is being serious, but I spoke in all good faith to the House, and I will continue to do so.”
