A Blackwood man will be trekking through the rugged Pembrokeshire coast next month to raise awareness of breast cancer among young people.

Nick O’Connor is aiming to raise £2,250 for CoppaFeel, and will be joined by 120 fellow-trekkers as he embarks upon the 100km trek.

The charity aims to end the late diagnosis of breast cancer among young people and stress the importance of young people understanding their bodies.

The trek will get underway on June 11 and finish on June 18.

Nick, who works as Head of Field Sales at cosmetics firm Avon, said: “Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the UK. Though it doesn’t exclusively affect women, worldwide approximately two million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

“Working closely with Avon’s representatives in my day job, I see the impact of the work we’re doing to raise awareness within communities of the signs and symptoms to be aware of and where to go to seek help if people notice something that isn’t normal for them.

“I’m proud to be trekking to support CoppaFeel and I’m so thankful to my friends, family and colleagues for their support and donations so far.”

Jenna Chick, partnership manager at CoppaFeel, said: “At CoppaFeel, we couldn’t do the work we do without incredible individuals, like Nick, taking on personal challenges and raising vital funds to support our mission.”
