GCSE students across Wales are receiving their exam results today after summer exams were sat for the first time since the Covid pandemic.
In both 2020 and 2021, grades were awarded based on teacher predictions as the pandemic disrupted the education system.
This year, around a quarter of all grades issued were grade A or above – a slight decrease on last year – while 68.6% were C or above, and 97.3% graded G or above.
In total, there were 311,072 grades issued, which is less than last summer but higher than in 2019.
Meanwhile, 97% of those sitting the National/Foundation Skills Challenge Certificate achieved the qualification, 17.6% of which achieved A* or A grades, while 84.4% achieved a C grade or above.
Wales’ Education Minister, Jeremy Miles, congratulated those receiving their results today and said: “You should all be proud of your hard work through the disruption of the last two years.
“I welcome these results as we transition back to exams this year – it’s great to see what our learners have achieved.”
“I hope you are pleased with your achievements and pob lwc on your next steps.”
Mr Miles added: “Don’t be too disappointed and don’t be too hard on yourself if things didn’t quite go to plan today. There are a range of options available to you, whether you’re unsure what to do next, or perhaps you didn’t sit your exams. Get in touch with Careers Wales or your school for support.
