The bed token for “No 78” at Bargoed Metropole Lodging House

A bed token for ‘Bargoed Metropole Lodging House’ found in an auction collection has caused a bit of mystery.

The token was found by Paul Clarke, from Cardiff, but the owner has been unable to find any note of the lodge in question.

Paul said: “I have a token for a bed at the ‘Bargoed Metropole Lodging House’ that is most unusual.

“I can find no reference to this long-gone establishment and wondered if any of your readers could shed any light on where it was or what happened to it”.

There are a few details which may help eagle-eyed locals solve the mystery. It’s 30mm across, not particularly heavy and has a number 78 on it, which Paul was “able to read with a magnifying glass”.

Do you know the mystery behind the token? If you do, please email emily@caerphilly.observer
