Long Covid support services in Wales will get an extra £8.3m each year to allow more people to access it – including people with other long-term conditions.
The Welsh Government funding will go towards community-based Adferiad (Recovery) rehabilitation services so people experiencing Long Covid can continue to receive support, as well as people with conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and other post-viral conditions.
The funding will also go towards the covidrecovery app, which was launched in 2021 to help people self-manage their Long Covid recovery.
What is Long Covid?
While most people who contract Covid-19 feel better within a few days or weeks, symptoms can lost a lot longer for some people.
This is called Long Covid, or Post Covid-19 Syndrome.
Wales’ Health Minister, Eluned Morgan, said: “Investing in Adferiad services to support people suffering from the long-term effects of Covid-19 infection has been and remains a priority.
“We have a valuable community asset as a result of developing these services, which we must continue to nurture and capitalise on this.”
Mrs Morgan said that by widening access to the support services, people with other long-term conditions can be better supported “to get a diagnosis, manage their symptoms and access rehabilitation services, which are vital in helping improve physical and mental health and wellbeing”.
