Markham’s Gerwyn Price was beaten in the penultimate Premier League Darts final on Thursday night.
Price fell to a 6-3 defeat to reigning world champion Michael Smith, who won his third consecutive Premier League Darts night in the process.
Competing at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on May 11, Premier League leader Price saw off Nathan Aspinall 6-2 in the quarter-finals, before a 6-2 win over Chris Dobey in the semi-finals.
It set up Price’s eighth Premier League final this year, having registered wins in in Cardiff, Nottingham, Newcastle and Brighton.
Victory in Sheffield would have guaranteed top spot for Price, who will now head into the final night in Aberdeen on May 18 with an in-form Smith just three points behind him.
Price will get Night 16 underway in Scotland with a quarter-final clash with Scotsman Peter Wright – with a run to the final being enough to secure top spot.
