The volunteer-run Van Community Centre has been supporting its community during the cost-of-living crisis.

The Food-share and ‘Cwtch Cafe’ which run every week at the community centre, in Porset Park, Caerphilly, offer support to residents impacted by the harsh economic climate.

Every Monday during term time, volunteers at the community centre operate a food-share scheme to help residents put food on the table at home and a free breakfast service for those in need.

The Cwtch Cafe, which opens on Friday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm, provides a free meal and dessert. It also provides entertainment on Fridays, such as bingo and weekly quizzes.

Cllr Elaine Forehead, who is the chair of Van Community Centre, said “I recognise the critical role that food-shares and community spaces play in supporting our residents.

“The food-share and Cwtch Cafe at Van Community Centre will continue to make a real difference to the many families and residents we support each week”.

The scheme was originally set up for residents living in the Van ward, which includes the communities of Porset Park, Lansbury Park, Mornington Meadows. However, anyone in need of support is welcome to attend for support.
