A fire at a disused former cafe in Ystrad Mynach was started deliberately, police have confirmed.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) was called to the former Nancy’s Cafe, near Ystrad Mynach Railway Station, just after 4.50pm on Monday March 30.

In a statement, SWFRS said: “Crews from Caerphilly, Roath, Aberbargoed, and Treharris attended, carrying out a defensive external attack using four 45M jets, four breathing apparatus, an aerial ladder platform, and breaking in tools.

“An internal search of the property was also completed.”

The fire was fully extinguished just after 5.45pm on Monday.
