Aber and Pengam train station ticket offices are set to close for good after Transport for Wales (TfW) announced its been unable to find someone to run them.

The manned ticket offices did close during the Covid-19 pandemic, but were temporarily reopened and staffed by members of TfW.

It’s understood now however that due to low passenger numbers and an unwillingness to commit more staff, TfW has closed the ticket offices.

A spokesperson said: “The ticket offices at Aber and Pengam stations were previously operated by third party retail agents but these arrangements came to an end during the pandemic and we have so far been unable to find replacements.

“The ticket offices have subsequently been staffed by our assistant ticket examiners on a temporary basis, but colleagues in these roles are now returning to their regular duties and will no longer be operating from the ticket office.

“Should we receive enquiries from retail agents about operating one or both of the ticket offices, we will look into reopening the sites in the future. In the meantime, customers can buy tickets from the ticket vending machines at the stations, from our on-board staff or via the TfW mobile app.”
