A former police officer who sexually assaulted two female colleagues on a work night out has been dismissed from the force for gross misconduct.

PC Kyle Steven, 24, of Newbridge, squeezed the two colleagues’ bottoms while drunk, a misconduct hearing was told.

The public hearing, held on Tuesday September 5, heard that Steven – who did not attend – would have been dismissed from the force had he not already resigned that day.

Steven, who had only been a serving officer for six weeks prior to the incident, will now be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list.

Gwent Police chief constable Pam Kelly, who chaired the panel, said: “It is extremely disappointing that through his own actions this young man has terminated his career in policing.

“We have repeatedly reinforced that we will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour towards colleagues or members of the public.”

CC Kelly continued: “By his own admission his behaviour towards female colleagues while off duty was unacceptable.

“I recognise that former PC Stevens has admitted his behaviour and has apologised to his victims but this apology has come far too late, and such a lapse in judgement lets his colleagues and the public down.

“Our culture is one where everyone is treated with respect and this behaviour does not reflect the high level of conduct displayed by our officers and staff on a daily basis.”
