An exhibition highlighting the use of canary birds in coal mines is on display at the Winding House in New Tredegar.
Hannah Newell’s Yellow Art Exhibition will be running until October 28 in the museum’s East Gallery and is free to attend.
The exhibition vividly portrays the historical use of canaries in mines, where these small birds were employed to detect harmful gases like carbon monoxide.
In a post on the Winding House website, Hannah Newell wrote: “I invite you to travel through my exhibition, learning and enjoying my art about these birds.”
Hannah, who spent 12 years of her childhood in Malawi, likes to paint using acrylic and colourful patterns – something that can bring back memories of time spent in the African nation.
This is not Hannah’s first exhibition at the Winding House – her exhibition Around the World in Eighty Paintings was shown in February 2022 when she was just 23.
There are also plans for another show in Kenya next year and some of her work is currently on tour around Wales with a charity called the SSAP.
Yellow Art Exhibition is on display at the Winding House, New Tredegar, until October 28.
