A free family event is being held in Rhymney this weekend to help provide entertainment and fun while also offering support during the cost-of-living crisis.
The event, which is being hosted by Rhymney Valley Food Bank, takes place in St David’s Community Centre on Saturday October 14.
It will run from 11am to 2pm.
Attendees can expect to find “free information and support” and a community get-together.
There will also be children’s entertainment, family arts and crafts, and refreshments available.
The food bank, which has been running for ten years, received financial assistance from the National Lottery Community Fund to put on the event.
Rhymney Valley Foodbank, which is part of the Trussell Trust’s network of 428 food banks, has seen a marked increase in usage during the cost-of-living crisis.
According to figures provided by the Trussell Trust, Rhymney Valley Foodbank provided more than 4,500 food parcels in the first two and a half months of 2023 alone – one of the biggest increases in Wales compared to the previous year.
Rhymney Valley Foodbank operates throughout the week.
It can be found at Hafod Deg Community Centre, Rhymney, on Tuesdays, and at St Peter’s Church in Aberbargoed on Wednesdays.
On Thursdays, it is at the White Rose Centre in New Tredegar.
The food bank is open between 11am and 1pm on each of these days.
