St Tyfaelog Church is holding a Poppy Festival to celebrate its 160th anniversary.
The church, in Pontlottyn, is inviting residents to “come and help” celebrate with a series of events running between November 11 and 19.
The festival opens on November 11 at 10.30am with a short act of remembrance following at 11am. There will then be stalls and refreshments in St Tyfaelog Church Hall.
On Remembrance Sunday, there will be a Eucharist at the Church at 10am and then a service at the war memorial at 11am.
Throughout the week, the church will be open from 10am to 2pm for people to come and view displays and refreshments will also be available.
There will also be a service on November 15 at 10.30am.
The festival finishes with Songs of Praise on November 19 at 3.30pm – followed by tea and cake to round off the celebrations.
Father Darren Lynch, curate of St Tyfaelog Church spoke Caerphilly Observer about why the celebrations are so important.
He said: “St Tyfaelogs church, once known as ‘the cathedral of the valleys’ has served the village of Pontlottyn and the surrounding community for 160 years.
“She’s seen war, heads of state, and a congregation that’s changed radically over the generations but at its core remains the same. A community built for the Gospel, for loving our neighbour and serving each other.”
Fr Darren continued: “She’s regal, still relevant and irreplaceable to Pontlotyn.”
St Tyfaelog Church is located on Church Street, Pontlottyn.
