Caerphilly Observer has been nominated in the Community Journalism of the Year category at this year’s Wales Media Awards.

It is the eighth time Caerphilly Observer has been nominated for the Community award – having won it four years in a row between 2015 and 2018.

The delayed 2020 awards, which were held virtually in April 2021, saw Caerphilly Observer named News Website of the Year.

Richard Gurner, Publisher and Editor of Caerphilly Observer, said: “To be recognised again with a nomination for these prestigious awards is overwhelming.

“We are an independently-owned, local, organisation without the backing of a big media group.

“We rely on the financial support of our members and our advertisers so a huge thank you to them.”

The awards ceremony takes place this year on Friday, November 10, at the Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff.

Alongside Caerphilly Observer in the Community Journalism category are Clonc 360 and Cwmbran Life.

The awards, organised by the Journalists’ Charity, celebrate and promote great journalism in Wales, and will be hosted by BBC Wales presenter Lucy Owen and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.
