Gerwyn Price, right, shakes hands with Brendan Dolan after their third round match-up

Gerwyn Price’s World Darts Championship campaign is over after a third round defeat to Brendan Dolan.

Price, 38, from Markham, was left ruing missed chances following the 4-2 loss against the Northern Irishman on Thursday December 28.

Dolan, 50, landed a trio of ton-plus finishes to stage an upset and end Price’s hopes of winning a second world championship.

Price found himself behind after the first set, but responded well in the second set to draw things level.

Dolan won the third set to go 2-1 ahead, with Price emphatically winning the fourth set 3-0 to level once again.

However, it wasn’t to be for Price, who was beaten in the next two sets to go crashing out of the tournament.

On Instagram after the game, Price said: “Absolutely gutted with the chances I gave away tonight, trying hard and just beating myself up.

“I just want to say how much I appreciate the crowd that got behind me. I just couldn’t get a flow and Brendan took every chance I gave him.

“Well done to him and I’ll hopefully learn from this. Gutted, but once again thank you.”

Meanwhile, Dolan said it was an “unreal” feeling to “beat someone like Gezzy”.

He continued: “I have the utmost respect for Gezzy. He is pure class. He didn’t play as well as he could have, and I took out some crucial finishes, which gave me the belief that it could be my night.

“It’s a big result for me, but I’m here to win. I know it’s going to be a battle to get there, but I’m ready to fight.”

Dolan will face either Croatia’s Boris Krcmar, or Scotsman Gary Anderson, in the fourth round.
