Markham’s Gerwyn Price reached the final as Premier League Darts returned for 2024.

However, he was convincingly beaten by Michael Smith at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on Thursday February 1.

Price opened the night with a 6-4 quarter-final victory over Nathan Aspinall, before beating Rob Cross 6-2 in the semi-finals.

Smith meanwhile saw off Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler en route to the final.

Price drew first blood in the night’s showpiece, but Smith responded with a three-leg burst to seize control of the contest.

His charge continued as he moved to the cusp of victory, before Price boosted his slim hopes of victory by pulling a leg back.

However, Smith capped off a dominant display and saw out the opening night victory.

While Price was unable to repeat his 2023 win in Cardiff, he walks away from the first night with three points on the board.

Premier League Darts returns in the German capital Berlin on Thursday February 8, with Price facing Smith once again in the quarter-final.
